Classes Have Started and The Potty is Finished

Dear Friends and Craft Seekers,

Well, I don’t mean to mislead you with my title above saying “the potty is finished.” As my chosen father Dan says, “We don’t like to use the F word around here.” Saying when something is finished is a delicate matter! After all, I still need to patch, sand and seal the oak doors, install a doorknob, and I need to install trim around the outside and paint either the whole thing inside or just the white strips of wood I added to the wall behind the toilet… and I need to forge and install a towel holder and a toilet paper holder… but! The potty has a door that closes, a working toilet/sink, lights, and a plunger!

Neighborhood Craft School Classes have started!

Speaking of the plunger, we had our first student who brought the plunger as a potty-warming present - totally NOT required! My sweet friend Peter took the Book/Tablet Stand Workshop, and here is what he had to say:

“If you're thinking about taking the Book Stand Workshop, I HIGHLY recommend it. I was very nervous I'd screw it up, but it turned out beautifully! Lory is a very patient teacher.”

For this class we used spalted birch, which is a highly figured wood. Because of that, we kept a fairly clean modern shape to the book stands. I made one along side Peter.

Make it stand out

Whatever it is, the way you tell your story online can make all the difference.

I’ll be posting classes for October in the next day or so, and if there’s a day/time you’d like but don’t see listed, please reach out to me at ProjectHappyLifeNYC@gmail.com. I’m happy to add classes as my schedule allows!

In the Meantime…

My friend Tim and I did a livestream on YouTube to talk about the vision for the craft school and to give people an idea of how things are progressing. We had some trouble with our mics in the beginning and at the end so I re-shot/re-created those bits. We liked doing the livestream so much that we’re going to have another go at it this week. If you like what you see, please consider stoppping by and subscribing to our channel!

Question Corner:

Here’s an easy question: At the end of class, do I get to take home the thing I made?

The answer is YES!

Housekeeping:

I’ve been continuing to clean up and work on improving the shop and classroom space. To that end, I’ve got a bunch of things listed on ebay. There are couple of old toys, some antique hardware I bought for the house (mostly door knobs and door plates) that I don’t need, and some dust collection stuff. If you’re interested in perusing, check it out!

If you’re local and looking for some Elfa shelving or an antique stove for a restoration project, those are links to the facebook marketplace listings.

Last but not least:

If you’re not able to attend classes in person but you still want to support our efforts, please tell your friends about us, watch our upcoming livestreams, or head over to the Neighborhood Craft School venmo account and make a contribution to the cause.

And thanks again for being here. I hope to see you in the shop!
